What Is KOTB?
“Kings Of The Blind” is my personal story I’ve had in the works for many years now.The story takes place during the early 2000’s, within the fictional city of Farjoy, located in South Dakota.

The main protagonist is David Sato, a lonely internet addicted 19 year old who’s tired of his stagnant life.
This leads to him meeting the main antagonist- Vincent Bech, a retired detective, and learning the truth about demons and the responsibility that comes with it.
Demons
There are three main types of demons:
- summoned demons
- human demons
- true demons.
Summoned demons are demons that can be summoned to earth through a ritual. This ritual begins when the summoner cuts a crescent moon into their wrists, drawing the symbols with their blood
*summoning circle
- the outer circle symbolises the unity between summoner and summoned.
- the inner circle represents the embryo of the new demon being brought to earth.
- the crescent represents the physical sacrifice the summoner must make.As soon as the summoning circle is made, the summoning will begin. An embryo is deposited from the Heart (see image below) into the summoning circle.
Once the embryo is within the circle it will sprout veins that will latch on anything surrounding it. This is so it can absorb energy from its surroundings.
After this, the embryo will cast two more veins into the summoner’s wrists, taking energy from them too.
The demon will begin to form as it searches through the summoner’s memories to find the most prominent sin. This also causes the summoner to have to live through these memories, which in turn gives the demon more energy to cast a solid form.

A summoned demons appearance directly represents how the summoner sees themselves.
For example- David saw himself as gangly and gross, so in turn, Abraxas is gangly and gross.Appearances also have limits.
- Skin tones have a range of oranges, yellows, reds and warmer greens. no cool tones.
- They cannot have horns, but instead can have ‘crests’ of thicker skull.
- Summoned demons can have several eyes (up to 6), multiple mouths & even tails.
- They cannot grow hair.
- they can be anywhere between 4 foot tall to 8 foot tall. generally sticking to natural human heights as taller requires far more energy.
When a demon is summoned the summoner gets to make a wish in a trade. This wish can be anything but there are limits for what can and cannot be done.
A demon cannot make a human do something they wouldn't normally be able to do (much like the Death Note). A demon also cannot grant anything that is impossible- like magic powers, mythical creatures, etc.
It also cannot make a human kill another human unless it’s something they’ve already thought of doing. The demon, however, is free to kill if it’s how they perceive the wish.
Summoned demons is free to interpret the wish however they please, much like a genie.
The more complex the wish is/is interpreted, the greater the cost. The cost is both something physical and something metaphorical.
The physical price is typically a limb, though for greater wishes it can be a life.
The metaphorical is often a relationship, again, for greater wishes it can go so far as memories.
Every summoned demon has a small amount of powers, such as being able to sense when another demon is using its powers.
Other powers will vary between demon, their sin & how much energy they received during summoning. These powers can include; being able to see what someone is attracted to (lust), the ability to temporarily paralyse someone, etc.
They can change who can see/hear them & if they’re able to be physically touched. A good reference for how they move is Pitch Black from Rise of the Guardians.
Human Demons, much like the name suggests, are demons that look human. the majority of them live on earth but a minority stay down in hell. it’s rare for human demons to want to stay in hell as they’re a weaker target for infights.
they have three subclasses;
- Animal
- Elemental
- kaleidoscopic
Animal demons are the most common and, as a result, are the weakest of the three.The more common the animal is, the more dominant the gene- thus, the more common the demon type is.The animal determines their powers and appearance when using them. This animal appearance can be seen most commonly in the eyes and the mouth. Iris shape and colour will often change, carnivorous animals will have teeth that match their animal & many will have claws.The powers these demons possess also directly represent the animal.
For example:
- A snake demon will bear fangs that contain venom
- A cat demon will have heightened senses and sharp claws
- An eagle demon will have incredible vision
Elemental demons are less common but far more powerful. There are four possible elements:
- Air
- Earth
- Water
- FireThe element of the demon not only determines their powers, but also temperament.Air demons can manipulate the air around them, stronger demons can control larger areas. They have the ability to suck the air out of someone’s lungs, or even thin the air of a select area.
They also have the power to change and control wind, sometimes even small weather formations.Earth demons are able to control and mould the earth around them- typically only rocks and soil.
The more powerful earth demons can even create small isolated tremors or move masses of land.Water Demons can control the flow of water, most able to float it around as if it were in zero gravity. They can source it from clouds, plants and natural bodies of water. Only the strongest of water demons can directly control or draw water from the human body.
Because many take water from clouds, they can manipulate their formations and create rain clouds or fog.Fire demons can spark and control flame. Many can use their fingers/body as a flint to create fire from nothing.
They can keep a flame isolated or cause it to go wild and become unstoppable. They’re usually the most aggressive of elemental demons.
Kaleidoscopic demons are the rarest and most powerful type of human demon.
They’re so powerful as they’re not only able to manipulate the world around them, but also the people around them.
These also have their own subtypes:
- Time
- Memory
- IllusionTime demons can manipulate the flow of time around them to a small extent. This isn’t actually changing time, just how the affected person perceives it.
They can slow themselves or people around them down. Contrarily, they can speed it up.
The more powerful time demons can ‘freeze’ time in an area, keeping all people inside that area completely frozen with zero idea of their predicament.Memory demons are linked to both memories and emotion. They can tap into the thoughts and feelings of their opponents, able to see their strongest memories.
These demons can easily read the emotion of almost anyone around them, no matter how well one may hide it. They’re often able to know what can tick someone off- even just able to use their powers to change their emotional state.
They can look into strong memories, many will use this to manipulate their opponents.Illusion demons are the strongest of the three, able to use some of the powers of the other two posses.
Many are able to read emotions/memories, freezing or slowing time as well as their own unique power- creating illusions.
They can create illusions that affect one person or many in an area, making them see things that aren’t there.
Common illusions are bugs, the opponents’ fears, and even disguises for the demon.
The more powerful demons of this type can get entire crowds to see the same thing, or not see something. They can even mimic the voices of what they’re casting.
True Demons are the primary of demons of hell.
This class has only two subclasses,
- Pure
- Named
Pure Demons are demons born of pure sin, rather than requiring human energy to form.These demons can be almost any size with an endless array of appearances. Though, insects tend to be the most common ‘inspiration.’
As mentioned each true demon has one sin they’re born from, this is seen in their personalities.
Named Demons are exceptionally rare and equally as powerful.These are the demons mentioned in historical, mythological and religious texts. They are untouchable in hell; sacred, respected and honoured.Any act against them will be met with death or banishment.
Hell Itself is run in a hierarchy. The leader rules over everything and everyone- Each leader can enforce any rule they wish, however, a leader is only as powerful as their followers.The position of leader is gained by overthrowing and killing the current head. Having loyal followers is important for a leader as it gives an extra level of protection, however- more lax leaders have had their own followers plan against them.Any failed attack against a leader, or even a Named demon will only get the demon banished from hell.
Banished Demons are their own, very unique, type of demon. They have acted so against their leaders that death is no longer a punishment.Banishment is done by cutting the same symbol used by summoners into the wrists of the demon, letting them bleed out their powers.
Stripped of these powers, they get crucified and publicly humiliated within hell until they perish.
Once dead, the demon will be transported to Earth and left stranded.True and Summoned demons cannot be seen by humans once banished, if they chose to live on it will be in complete isolation.
Human demons will instead just have all powers stripped and be forced to live their lives as a normal human being.In very rare cases, a banished demon may keep very few of their powers. This usually only ever happens when the demon is far more powerful than anticipated.
In these cases, their powers cannot be sensed by other demons.

Kings Of The Blind takes place in the fictional town of Farjoy, South Dakota.
2007, prelude.

- David drops out of high school due to stress
- has big fallout with his friend Staci, he drops communication with him
- joins online forums to keep himself busy while his remaining friend is at school
- gets involved with the hunters due to naivety
- meets Vincent
- bears witness to the violent truth of demon hunting
- drops all communication with Kathy
- gets used as a meat shield by a demon
- promptly flees the hunters and leaves all groups relating to it
- does his own research into demons and finds a method to summon his own
- summons Abraxas
- uses his wish to split his parents up & to never see his mother again
2008, beginning.
- Vincent gets worried about david’s continued radio silence, convinces him to meet up again
- Vin sees David’s summoning scars and realises he’s got a demon. tries to get david to show his demon
- David flees
- meets Joel who protects/hides david from vincent
- joel feels bad for david and his situation, admires his willingness to help demons
- helps david and abraxas with the basics of being/having a demon (demons are not born with all the knowledge of their powers)
- david wants to start fighting back against hunters, joel agrees, but knows many demons would rather stay hidden and unseen than fight
- realising david knows many of their names/faces, notably the leaders, joel see’s it could be a good idea
- joel gathers a few willing demons he knows due to family ties
- the demons that join let their friends know, movement expands
- vincent finds out.
2009, War.
- Vincent finds Aaron when he’s freshly banished from hell
- Aaron flees Vin & joins the resistance fighters
- Joel uses his funds to arm the resistance & buying an old warehouse to use as a safe house
- Haghan joins the cause and trains many of the summoned demons how to push their powers to the limits
- Damion gets personally invited by Vin to join the hunters to find out how demon powers work
- He summons Dev, summoning gets interrupted and he’s summoned incorrectly.
- Vin forces Damion to kill dev to dissect him.
- David is on patrol with Abraxas and gets captured by Vincent
- Vin tries to get Damion to force Abraxas out to dissect him, Damion refuses and flees
- David gets rescued by Joel
- David reunites with Kathy for familiarity, tells her about everything
- Kathy tells David about how his actions cost Staci his future & that he cant just come back like nothing happened. her negative reaction causes david to cut her off again, thinking she hates him.
- Joel picks him up
- things go back to the usual, patrolling, occasional small scale fights
- David is out on another lone patrol and gets found by a hunter who recognises him. Its Staci
- Staci tells david of how he ruined his future in sports. how david is nothing but a selfish asshole who takes from others and never gives back
- David is stabbed and he flees into the snowy woods
- Staci calls for backup and David collapses in the snow. Without other options, abraxas possesses him and returns to the safe house
- Joel has to seperate abraxas and david. Joel is angry at abraxas as possession is incredibly dangerous and taboo.
- David recovers fine
- hunters go incredibly quiet. suspiciously quiet.
2010, Escape.
- the hunters ambush their safe house
- vincent reveals Aarda, his own summoned demon
- the fight is brutal. david, joel and haghan work together to get as many out as possible
- Austin snipes David from the rooftops during their last escape run
- Abraxas kills austin.
- David ends up in hospital, the bullet missed his heart by only a few inches
- Vincent manages to sneak David from the hospital and kidnaps him again
- Aaron reveals he was working for the hunters the whole time and tortures david
- the remaining resistance manage to find david and joel rescues him a second time
- Aaron is killed by Haghan during the conflict. Haghan dies from his injuries.
- Joel is angry at david, believing david let vincent take him from the hospital- letting paranoia come between them
- David flees
- He finds Jason handing out fliers for a commune that accepts all and provides free food. without options, David agrees to go to the commune with Jason
- David is indoctrinated into the Northern Star Church
- he realises it is a cult.
- David tries to leave and gets captured by Tommy, Jason finds out and makes sure David doesn’t forget that moment
- David is publicly shamed for ‘sinning’ by its leader, Michael.
- On the anniversary of Michaels mother death, the cult hosts a memorial ceremony. David uses this as his chance to escape again.
- He manages to get out this time, getting to the local town and using a pay phone to contact Joel.
- David gets back to Farjoy.
2011, Resolution.
- while david was gone, the hunters leadership crumbled without vincent’s main men (Austin and Aaron)
- The resistances leadership also crumbled without david, abraxas or haghan support. Joel was distant and reckless without them to hold him back
- with david and abraxas back, they planned one final attack against the hunters
- the last of the resistance ambushed what remained of the hunter base
- joel and david got separated, David instead going alone to face vincent
- They had a long talk, vincent telling david why he hates demons. why he made the hunters. who aarda is. everything- especially why he could never kill david.
- david kills vincent.
